Why won’t my xbox 360 cup holder shrink down to fit smaller drinks?

I press the silver button on the console, the cup holder comes out as expected. Only it doesn’t shrink down to fit smaller drinks. Can you help me ?

Do you not have the XBox 360 Elite? If not, that explains your problem. Sell the arcade version of the 360 and buy the Elite version, it has all the great perks. Including espresso.
